Impressive structures and terrain

In contrast to the previous section from Kaitoke, this section includes the largest bridges to be found on the route, and steep gradients amidst impressive mountainous terrain.

  • 99 yard (91 metre) Pakuratahi tunnel located on a 5 chain (100 metre) radius curve
  • The 80' (24 metre) Pakuratahi Truss Bridge over the Pakuratahi River
  • Under-strutted simple beam bridge over Ladle Bend Creek, located on a 5 chain (100 metre) radius curve
  • Ruling gradient of 1 in 39 for route from Maymorn to Summit, uphill from Ladle Bend bridge
  • Steep, incessant gradients, typically 1 in 40 - 54
  • Ventilation shaft for the Rimutaka Tunnel located near the Paruratahi Tunnel.
