Projects Summary
Kaitoke deviation

A proposed new route to deviate the railway from the former Kaitoke alignment.

Maymorn connection route

A new route is needed to connect our Maymorn site with the heritage railway route as it climbs out of the Mangaroa Valley towards Kaitoke.

New walkway

Detailed specifications, location and plans have been prepared for a new walkway to ensure that current recreational activities are provided for.

Stage 1: Maymorn to Summit

Our current main focus — to reinstate the former railway route between Maymorn and Summit as a heritage railway.

Stage 2: Build linkages

Next stage of work — to build linkages with other attractions and build the visitor base for the railway.

Stage 3: Rimutaka Incline

Reinstating the former Fell-worked Rimutaka Incline between Cross Creek and Summit.

Stage 4: Cross Creek to Featherston

A later completion stage that could be built to connect the Rimutaka Incline Railway with the national rail network at Featherston.

Projects under way at Maymorn

Projects Summary
Ballast wagons

The Trust has a fleet of thirteen YC-class ballast wagons for future use on the Rimutaka Incline Railway.

Carriages

The Trust has a growing collection of carriages, ranging in period from 1880s timber-clad to 1940s-era 56-foot carriages.

Head of steel

Track is being built at Maymorn station, including our future mainline and loop tracks, along with points and yard track leading into the rail vehicle shed.

Maymorn station building

An authentic heritage station building is planned for Maymorn. A full set of drawings have been prepared by conservation architects, based off a George Troup design dating from 1907.

Rail vehicle shed

Our rail vehicle shed construction project is well under way, the external shell virtually complete. Facilities within are being built, including two 24-metre long inspection pits and concrete floors.

Shunting loco Tr189

Our first complete locomotive — shunting loco Tr189 is being restored to operation at the Trust's Maymorn site.
