The application to Greater Wellington Regional Council on 3 November 2011 sought approval in principle to rebuild the railway from Maymorn to Summit, subject to completion of an agreed timetabled programme of investigation, analysis, consultation and fundraising. The Trust seeks to work in partnership with Greater Wellington Regional Council to carry out this programme of work to meet GWRC requirements.
